Six Gifts for the Person Who Has Everything
We all find it increasingly difficult to find just the right gift for that special person. So what happens if that person says, "I already have everything. Just don't buy me anything."? This is when you have two choices: a. Do what they said and don't buy them a gift. Or b. Get creative and give them the gift they will love and always remember.
There are a number of reasons why a person may not want a gift.
Maybe they are older and they have an entire drawer full of Christmas ties or kitchen appliances are still in the box.
Perhaps the person lives in a smaller home or apartment. Maybe they move around a lot. Or they recently downsized.
Or they are a minimalist.
Or....the list goes on. If you saw your birthday gift from last year at their latest garage sale, you might get the hint. So what do you give that person who has everything?
Gift of Experience
Think about what the person likes to do? Just make sure you give them an experience for two so that they do not have to do it alone. Some examples:
Tickets to see their favorite sports team
Concert tickets
Wine tasting
Hot air balloon ride
Theater tickets
Gift of Learning
Is there something that this person has always wanted to learn? So many people welcome the experience of learning a new skill or hobby. Who knows? Maybe they can teach you something as well. A few examples:
Calligraphy class
Pottery workshop
Cooking classes
Woodworking
Photography classes
Gift of Memory
Gift one of our t-shirt quilts. Does the person have a closet full of t-shirts for every 10k they have competed in? Or do they have shirts from prior vacations, sports teams, or school events? Think about shirts from their family members, one person for each square. This is a gift that will be cherished by the recipient and will last forever.
Photo collages. Let them remember their past by making a collage of snapshots, school photos, wedding, etc.
Gift of Donation
What is the charity that the recipient supports? For example, you might give a donation to the American Cancer Association or ASPCA. You can give them a certificate that reads: $X was donated to _______ in your name. (We also accept donations to support Deaf Initiatives. More info here.)
Donate to a college fund. Maybe it is for a child or grandchild, but this is a generous and thoughtful gesture.
Any donation made in the person's name is wonderful, but it is important to find out which charity or fund they are most passionate about.
Gift of Subscription
These gift subscriptions have become a trend recently because they are easy and your gift usually gets spread out over twelve months. You simply purchase a subscription and the gift box is delivered to the recipient monthly. What used to be limited to a Book of the Month or Wine Club is now farther reaching and is more specific. Some other ideas might be:
Beauty or makeup
Fitness
Fishing
Pets
Cigars
Crafts
Gift of Membership
A word of caution here, be sure this is something the recipient will enjoy. Don't give them a gym membership if they are going to be insulted. Some safer memberships might be AAA, Netflix, or Costco.
At this point, you are thinking, wait a minute! I didn't see cash or gift cards on the list. You could still do this, but the gifts that are listed above demonstrate that you have put some thought and effort into finding a gift that is tailored to your recipient. (You just didn't go down to the nearest convenience store and pick up some gift cards.)
