Quilt Terminology 101
We live and breathe t-shirt quilts, so we use some terms on the site to describe the difference of products. We understand that most people might not know what these terms mean, so we’ve created a glossary for you!
Sashing
Sashing is a 1 1/2-inch frame around every shirt on the front of the T-shirt quilt. Sashing especially enhances a t-shirt quilt when many of the t-shirts are the same color. We have many colors of sashing fabric to choose from or send us your own special fabric. Sashing is included in the price of your Keepsake T-Shirt Quilt.
Blocks
Block features are a great finishing touch to the perfect quilt. Block features are only available on Keepsake T-Shirt Quilts With Sashing. These squares are added to your sashing fabric for the extra splash of color. Keep in mind the Block Feature color must be different than your Sashing color. Pricing varies based on the size of your quilt.
Meandering
Meander quilting is a term that refers to the stitches that hold the layers of a quilt together in a random, meandering way. Although meandering can be done by either hand or machine, today's quilters use the technique most often when they quilt by machine.
Meandering stitches usually do not usually overlap, but sometimes quilters create intentional curves or circles with stitches that do cross each other.
Backing
The backing is the fabric on the side opposite your t-shirts. We have many different fabric choices and colors to choose from or you can send us your own fabric to use. We will provide you with the necessary measurements if sending your own fabric.
Backing is included in the price of your Keepsake T-Shirt Quilt with or without Sashing.
Binding
The binding shows as a narrow border around the entire edge of your quilt. We have many different fabric choices and colors to choose from or you can send us your own fabric to use. We will provide you with the necessary measurements if sending your own fabric.
