Michelle and her “Blue Devils” quilt is a very inspiring story that we wanted to share with our customers!
I grew up in the Cleveland area in the small town, Independence. My husband and I met at Ohio State and have settled in Columbus. We recently were blessed to welcome into our lives our beautiful baby boy! I work right down the street from Keepsake Theme Quilts, at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Finding Keepsake Theme Quilts in our neighborhood is another thing we love about living in Columbus!
I truly had the idea for my Dad’s T-shirt quilt gift over a decade ago. In high school, I was very active in sports as were my 5 siblings! Both my Mom and Dad were always our biggest supporters. My Dad was heavily involved with the high school athletic program, serving as the booster president for many years. I remember our garage serving as a warehouse for the storage of high school sweatshirts, polos, and t-shirts! I had wanted to do the t-shirt quilt for my dad as a thank you for his support over the years but new it would have the greatest impact with all 6 kids shirts included. Being the second oldest of the 6 kids, I had to wait 11 years for my youngest brother to graduate and all T-shirts to be collected!
I first learned about t-shirt quilts through a running magazine. Having a family member make the quilt seemed like to big an undertaking. I called several sew & craft shops in Columbus but these stores did not make quilts. A Google search directed me to Keepsake Themed Quilts and upon reading about KTQ’s social mission, I knew there was no better place to have my dads quilt made.
